Amelia McDermott is Co-Chair of the Appellate Practice Group, has been a Certified Specialist in Appellate Law by the State Bar of California, California Board of Legal Specialization since 2009, and is a member of the Class Action Counsel team based in California. Amelia’s practice focuses on appellate law dealing with both procedural and substantive issues before state and federal appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court. As an experienced appellate attorney, Amelia understands how appellate courts operate, can navigate the complex procedural aspects of the appellate process, and has the perspective needed to craft strong arguments and write persuasive briefs to effectively present cases at the appellate level.
In addition, Amelia is also a brief writer assigned to class, mass, and representative actions, including PAGA. At both the trial court and appellate level, Amelia formulates and executes briefing strategy, including the development of cutting-edge arguments, and thought leadership on the most pressing class action, PAGA, and appellate issues confronting our clients. She evaluates and selects legal authority that supports the facts and circumstances of each case and prepares substantive briefs and motions, including complex appellate briefing, dispositive motions, opposition to class certification, motions to compel arbitration, mediation briefs, and other strategic briefing.
Amelia joined Littler in 2017 and has more than twenty-five years of experience in civil litigation and law and motion, including complex business cases and employment-related matters. While in law school, Amelia was a member of the Appellate Moot Court Board, the magistrar of the international legal fraternity of Phi Delta Phi, and the founding content editor of the San Diego International Law Journal.
